Here's to the next 212,721 miles, Tulsa. One step at a time.

Two years ago I had triple bypass surgery. Up to that time I had eaten whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it, and I never exercised. I weighed 290 pounds. The bypass surgery got my attention and I began to watch what I eat and I started walking for at least 30 minutes three times a week. I am now down to 220 pounds with a long term goal fo 175 pounds now in sight. I feel better than I can remember since High School and my health is now better than it has been in years. I am enjoying life again.

I really enjoyed the Tulsa Run this year. I PRed with a 1:14:18. I can't believe I shaved about 6 minutes from last year's time. Thank you Kathy and Brian at RunnersWorld for all your help. I'm looking forward to the Rt 66 Marathon.

Two Million Miles Together

LET'S DO IT!

We're now into the second month of the new year -- are you reaching your fitness goals?

Tulsa Million Miles wants to help you succeed in all your efforts of getting fit and lean during 2010. Log on to our Web site every day to keep track of your progress, check on upcoming fitness events in Tulsa, and much more!

Let's all do our part to become healthier and change our state's unhealthy rankings. Whether you ride your bike, walk, run, swim, kayak, play basketball, or participate in another form of fitness activity, you can help us log two million miles or more by the end of 2010.

Are you feeling a little competitive? Our first lady is active every day and challenges you to match your activity miles against her own. Just check out her mileage underneath the odometer at the top right-hand side of the screen every day and see how you measure up.

One more thing -- event directors, please send us your latest race results so we can add them to the site. All of your events' mileage that you report will help spur us on to achieving our goal of two million miles by the end of 2010.

Come on Tulsa, let's get up and get healthy and lean! Together, we can shape up Tulsa one mile at a time.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett

P.S. Here's a fit tip you can really use: cycling on a stationary bike for 45 minutes a day roughly equals 10 miles!
